Roger G. Mazzone Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Roger G. Mazzone, age 88, of Brooklyn, NY died on July 14, 2022 at Bayshore Hospital. Holmdel, NJ with his family by his side. Born and raised in Brooklyn with his sisters Lenora and Marie Elaine, he was the son of Rocco and Marie (Tamburo) Mazzone. Roger served our country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1956. He was a proud veteran and a member of American Legion Post 791, Brooklyn and the Korean War Veterans Association, Staten Island. Roger spent 40 years, from 1981 until 2021, serving as the Chairman, President and/or Treasurer of the United Mental Development Foundation (UMDF) of Brooklyn, NY, a social club for developmentally disabled young adults. With his larger than life personality, his professional project engineer career continued by managing the UMDF's building facilities and tenants, while also organizing all of the club's social events and managing the finances solo, since 2004. The UMDF members and families were part of his extended family. In his spare time, Roger was an avid collector and/or creator of watches, coins, cuckoo clocks, and bottle lanterns. Roger also had a special relationship with cars, the ones that he drove and the more than 100 model cars that he displayed at auto shows and events, and loved to gift them to others, especially children. Roger had a listening ear and a generous heart, always "at the ready" to assist family and friends. Above all, Roger was a family man, recently celebrating 63 years of marriage with his loving wife, Anne. Together, they devoted their lives to their son, Roger Jr., daughter, Annemarie Smith, son-in-law Lee, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. But, the highlight of his existence was all the time spent with his beloved grandchildren, Sophia and Andrew, while watching them grow. Roger will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with military honors to be presented at 7:30PM at the Waitt Funeral Home,501 Hwy 79, Morganville, NJ A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday July 20, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Clement RC Church, 172 Freneau Avenue, Matawan, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Roger's family suggests donations in his memory be made to: Tunnel to Towers Foundation at: https://t2t.org/donate/ , which develops and builds custom-designed smart home communities for disabled veterans.
