Robert Kenney Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert (Bob) Kenney, 91, of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away on January 17, 2021 from Covid-19 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. He was born on April 6,1929 to Martin and Johanna Kenney in Hoboken, NJ and was one of 10 siblings in a loving Irish Catholic family. Bob eventually settled with his wife Marge in Old Bridge, where they raised their three children. Bob had a lifelong love of traveling. One story he told was how his family started calling him "the wanderer" when he was a young boy after he spontaneously hopped on the train to visit relatives in Baltimore without letting his family know. His wanderlust continued for his whole life and he was always looking forward to his next trip. Although every trip had special memories, among his favorites were his first European trip with his brother Tom and wife, Fran to visit his sister Jean and her husband, Ib in Belgium; a Tauck tour of Hawaii with good friends from Old Bridge, and a family tour in Ireland just a few years ago. Bob was an eternal optimist who loved people, especially his family and appreciated everything he had. One of his final comments before he died was, "I've had a good run." Hopefully everyone agrees. Bob is survived by daughter, Maureen (husband Terry Smith); daughter, Deborah Meidlinger (husband Scott); son, Robert Kenney, Jr. (wife Min); sister Jean (husband Ib); and grandchildren Jeremy and Connor Smith, Kimberly Kenney, and Emily Meidlinger. He is also survived by his special friend, Sophie Wachowicz, who added meaning to his life in his last years. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Kenney in 2011. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Rt 516, Old Bridge, NJ. Entombment will follow on Thursday, January 21,2021 at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Burial Park and Mausoleum, 840 Cranbury South River Rd, Jamesburg, NJ.
