Evelyn Warran Jones, 85, of Aberdeen, NJ passed away on Monday Feb 14, 2022 at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, NJ from complications caused by a stroke that brought her courageous five-year fight against cancer to an end. She was supported in her journey to heaven by her family (aka Team Evelyn), her pastor, her friends and the skilled doctors, nurses and technicians who cared for her. Evelyn was born on December 26, 1936 in Stoneham, MA to Evelyn Marjorie Gray and James Franklin Gray. She was raised in Everett, MA, as one of ten children. After graduating from high school, Evelyn worked as a secretary in Everett and met her future husband Charles L. Jones. They were married on August 9, 1955. Evelyn and Charlie started their family in Stoneham, MA and two of their children, Barbara and Charles (Chuck), were born there. In 1961, the family moved to Fanwood, NJ where two more children, Sandra and Bradley were born. After living in Memphis, TN for a few years, Evelyn and Charlie moved back to the northeast in 1968 to Aberdeen where Evelyn lived until she passed away. Evelyn spent many years as a dedicated mother and homemaker specializing in giving unconditional love to her family. She was always the neighborhood fun-Mom, joining her children and friends in games and adventures. When her children grew older, Evelyn reestablished her career as an executive assistant for Lanes Associates where she worked for fifteen years until her retirement. After that, she worked part time for several years in Dr. Richard Marzo's chiropractic office. Evelyn was a woman of many interests including the arts, language, literature and music. She sang in community theatre musicals and in the church choir at First Baptist Church of Matawan, where she was a devoted member for 50 years. Evelyn's deep Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life. Evelyn was an active volunteer, having served as the president of the Keyport Bayshore Hospital Auxiliary. She also fulfilled many volunteer roles in her church- from teaching Sunday School to vacation bible school to leading the prayer chain. Her membership in the women's Bible Study was a source of great learning, support and comradery. Evelyn always had a special place in her heart for the elderly, helping to care for and support many individuals over the years. A talented artist, Evelyn loved to sketch, particularly portraits of family, friends, strangers and the famous. She was a dedicated and talented painter, taking studio classes in oils and acrylics, and producing still lifes, landscapes and portraits. A true lifelong learner, Evelyn enjoyed taking English classes at Brookdale Community College. She enjoyed writing poetry and often did so in honor of birthdays and holidays. Evelyn was an avid reader, who cherished her books. She read the Asbury Park Press every morning, and as part of this ritual, prayed for each individual listed in the obituary section. Evelyn thoroughly enjoyed words and was a puzzler until the last days of her life. She enjoyed solving the JUMBLE every day until she became a New York Times Spelling Bee addict. She was very competitive, always striving to get to Genius before other family members. Evelyn cared deeply about others and showed her love through thoughtful notes, texts, Bitmojis, poems and gifts which were always carefully and uniquely crafted for their recipients. She was an excellent listener and demonstrated a keen interest in the lives of her family, friends, and acquaintances. This quality was most evident in her relationships with her grandchildren. Evelyn and Charlie were happily married for 50 years. They both enjoyed golf, dancing, and their trips to Colorado, Nova Scotia, London, Paris, Boston, NH, and upstate NY. They also enjoyed simple pleasures closer to home like a Friday night prime rib at Charlie Brown's or wagering a dollar for every Wheel of Fortune puzzle. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Charles L Jones, parents Evelyn Gray and James F.
