Esther M Rinear

November 24, 1919 - September 8, 2017

Esther M. Rinear, 97, of Matawan and Cedar Bonnet Island, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017. Esther was born November 24, 1919 to David and Helen Martin, and she was the widow of Daniel D. Rinear Jr. who predeceased her by 33 years. She is survived by her two sons, David (Sheila) of San Antonio TX and Cedar Bonnet Island, and Douglas (Marilyn) of Okeechobee Florida. Additionally, she is survived by her grandsons Kurt Rinear, and Christopher Gloege (Amy), and her Granddaughter Amanda Devecka-Rinear (Smiley) and her great grand children August Rinear Gleoge, Trinity Rinear and Victoria Rinear. After receiving her degree from Montclair State a day before her son David received his BA in 1966 , Esther taught 8th grade math in the Marlboro School system for more than 30 years before retiring in 1986. She always believed that one should contribute more to a community than they received from it. Esther served on the Matawan Regional Board of Education from 1960-63, and again from 1968-71. She served as a Councilwoman in the Borough of Matawan from 1990 -1996, and on the boro planning board from 1967 until 2005.Additionally, Esther served as Treasurer of the First Baptist Church in Matawan for 23 years, until her failing eyesight made that service no longer possible. She was elected to the Matawan High School Hall of Fame, and named citizen of the year in 1999. She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Matawan, and a long time member of Sirius chapter 123 OES. An exemplary pillar of the community and one of the few remaining members of the greatest generation, her passing at the age of 97 marks the end of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Esther's memory to the charity of your choice.
