Eleanor V. McCoy

March 10, 1924 - June 18, 2022

Eleanor Veronica McCoy was born to loving parents Eleanor (nee Cary) and Raymond Smith in Queens, N.Y. Eleanor, as an only child, enjoyed being part of the large Cary family with her beloved Aunts and Uncles including her cousins Donald and Gerard Smith whom she often said were like her brothers. She enjoyed trips out to her Aunt Lillian and Uncle Joe's in Ohio riding the running board of Uncle Joe's car to Lake Erie for a swim. At Jamacia High School she met the love of her life Gerald J. McCoy who she married in 1945 and shared a wonderful life together for 52 years. Eleanor and Gerry enjoyed traveling and she was particularly fond of remembering meeting interesting people like the Pope and President Jimmy Carter. Eleanor was known to be very thoughtful and generous and enjoyed her extended family (Smiths, McCoys) and friends' (Burns, Bliss, Hickey and Daly). Eleanor was a woman of strong Catholic faith and enjoyed her many years at St. Clement Parish whether as a lecturer, in the choir or as part of the senior's group. Her Irish heritage was always on display in Waterford crystal, knit Irish sweaters, hats and items with a shamrock or green color. Eleanor's final six years were spent at the Willows where she enjoyed the support of their caring staff and many friends and she gave them her joy in return. She considered herself very blessed and a positive view of life helped her reach her 98th year. Her quiet and peaceful passing was the final blessing of a long and wonderful life.
